On October 22nd 2018, we met at the Riley Park Community Garden for the first time this year. Our guest speaker was Erika Preece, who taught the students about plant life cycle and led them through sustainable agriculture experiences. This year we will be working in a vegetable bed allocated for us in Ed's garden.
We practiced the following activities:
1. Harvest of (mainly green) tomatoes. Cleanup and composting of tomato plants.
2. Collecting dead leaves for mulching.
3. Planting garlic cloves of two varieties and covering the bed with leaf mulch.
4. Weighing and planting a mix of cover crop seeds: Winter peas, triticales (a hybrid of wheat and rye), poppies and clovers.
5. Getting to know the community garden and exploring different plants and their parts.
Thank you Victoria for your assistance! We really appreciate your knowledge and fantastic energy!
